Travel Diaries - Vienna Diaries, Austria, Europe 2016

I cannot believe this is the first post of this month. I have been hit by travel bug, that all I dream is where to take next vacation and when to quit my full-time job. However, coming back to the reality, I am going to share the travel escapades of my Europe trip.
I will start with Vienna where we landed and began our vacation. I will try to not bore you and make it crisp and short.

Vienna is the capital of Austria. It's artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethovan and Sigmund Frued. The city is also known for its Imperial palace including Schonbrunn, the Habsburgs' summer residence. Here is some more information about the history of Vienna and the rulers who ruled the city: Here

Accommodation
We stayed in Flemings Deluxe Hotel Wien City which is a 5-star property. Though, not really that lavish vis-a-vis other 5-star properties. The gourmet breakfast was the only winner in this hotel. The rooms were tiny. You will reside in the city center in the beautiful "Josefstadt" quarter, directly behind City Hall and 15-20 minutes from the Hofburg and Parliament. Hofburg is the official seat of the Austrian President.

Culinary Adventures:
Vienna is a place where you can indulge in any cuisine of your choice for a gastronomical fare. We loved Mexican cuisine at Santos. We also relished Turkish food at the Turks restaurant.

Travelling tips:
- If shopping makes your heart sing then try to spend more time here. There are great Austrian and Italian brands which are not there in India.
- Metros are the best option to travel within the city. We used a cab only once from the airport to the hotel which was about 50 euros.
- Though most of the hotels have wifi, you would need a sim card and more than that data for using Google maps to survive in the city for your travel escapades.
- It is up to you if you want to stay for more days. However, 2 days are enough for a perfectly tantalizing introduction to the city's charms.

Things to do:
Schonbrunn palace, one of Europe's most impressive Baroque palace complex is a must-visit for every traveller. I did not go inside the palace but do not miss the magnificent garden at the back of the palace. It is the former summer residence of the imperial family with 1441 rooms. Humongous 18th-century summer palace with tours of lavish rococo ceremonial rooms, plus gardens with a maze.
Here is some more info for you: Things to know.
- St Stephen's Cathedral. The construction of this cathedral commenced in the 12th century. It was a site of both wedding and funeral of Mozart.
- Vienna is every shopper's paradise and shopping makes my heart sink. I really wish I had more time to shop and explore!
The most trendy retail attraction is Kaerantnerstrasse running from St. Stephen's to the State Opera House, this along with the Graben. Mariahilfer Strasse is another shopping mile located between the center of the city and Westbahnof. There are lot of offbeat stores too.
