Travel Diaries vol 8 - 48 Hours in Sydney, Australia

They say collect memories and not things. There are no material things that wonderful memories and real adventure could ever replace. I enjoy finer things in life. As much as I lust over designer bags and overpriced heels, but I know, I am rich in moments and memories. And I will go on forever.
Finally, this is the last leg of my honeymoon. You can imagine there have been so many posts in the pipeline that finally I am publishing this post sitting in my drafts after so long.
Sydney, the capital of New South Wales and one of Australia's largest cities, is best known for its harbourfront Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Massive Darling Harbour and Circular Quay are hubs of waterside life, with the towering, arched Harbour Bridge and Royal Botanic Gardens nearby.

Accommodation:
We stayed in Novotel hotel (4.5-star) overlooking the Sydney harbour bridge for 2 days. Overlooking Darling Harbour and the Sydney skyline, this polished hotel is a 10-minute walk from Sea Life Sydney Aquarium and a kilometer from the Powerhouse Museum.

Healthy bites! Loved this Mexican bowl with brown rice and beans.
At the Sydney zoo. Exploring native wildlife and beautiful species.
Culinary delights.

"Us" by the Opera House

Things to do:
- For Sydney, we did not take "hop-on hop-off" tour as we had already done in Singapore and we were keen on lazing around.
Watch a play in Sydney Opera house if you have time. When we went, Hamlet was running but we had to skip it due to timing constraints. We spent a convivial evening with a couple of friends over coffee by the Opera house.
- Rocks market is one of the happening places near Opera House. It is a stroll under 2 main landmarks harbour bridge and opera house. It is quaint, buzzing with activities, full of restaurants and shops. (check www.therocks.com).
You can enjoy a leisurely meander around the Rocks Market.
- Deck up and go to some of the sizzling parties and events happening in the clubs there. You might have to pay entry on the weekend for some of the top notch parties.
- Sightseeing at Bondi beach! I had enjoyed the sun-blazed beaches in Gold Coast and hence skipped going to the beach. You could take a ferry to go to the beach.
- There are several cruise options on Sydney harbour but we preferred exploring other culinary adventures and activities.
- Some of the other attractions are Sea Life Sydney aquarium and zoo. We got a good deal online and enjoyed exploring the Australian native wildlife up close, from kangaroos and cuddly koalas, to snakes and crocodiles, to exotic fish and marine life. The Taronga zoo is overlooking the Harbour area with a home to more than 400 species.
- If you have more days and if it sounds enticing enough, take a day trip to blue mountains and Jenolan caves.

Travelling tips:
- If you are a beach person, head to Bondi beach.
- Make sure you stay in the heart of Sydney so that you don't have to spend on cabs. Staying at Novotel hotel by the Sydney Harbour was a good decision.
- Darling Harbour is a pedestrian street. All shopping malls and restaurants are around. Try to stay in the vicinity or somewhere near the Opera House.
We could take a walk right outside the hotel and cross the bridge and check out Harbour Side Shopping Center.
- Get a local number from India or you could also get at the airport when you land.
- There are umpteen number of options to marvel the culinary delights!
