I was studying in Bangalore for four years; as a result, I was able to explore all the places around whenever I was hit by travel bug. If you are in Bangalore, you must visit Coorg and Chikmagalur, which are the ideal destinations for weekend getaway. There is nothing like quiet retreats and breathtaking views for the nature lovers here.

Coorg is perhaps one of the best getaways from Bangalore, perched on Western Ghats. Coffee plantations, cascading waterfalls, cool misty hills, green valleys are some of the highlights of Coorg. It is also a perfect place for trekking amidst hills and luscious surroundings. Also, do not forget to try the local Coorgi cuisine.

There are comfortable affordable places to stay and even lavish Coorg Resorts. You could also go for the travel packages that include accommodation, sightseeing and trekking as well. Madikeri, the capital of Coorg, could be crowded as well, so make sure you do your prior reservations in any of the Coorg Resorts. 

The drive to Chikmagalur is truly unforgettable; it is about 265 kms away from Bangalore. Quaint little towns, serene surroundings, temples, sunflower fields are worth the visit. One of my college friends was from Chikmagalur, so we had the opportunity to crash at her place and enjoy their warm hospitality.

If you are high on adventure, make sure you go on a trek and invigorate your senses while enjoying the drive around. We just went to the Cafe Coffee Day there, and I still cannot stop raving about the coffee there as it is locally sourced. Perhaps one of the best Cafe Coffee Day outlets there is.

There are lot of home stay options and lavish places like Taj Garden retreat and Planters court depending on your budget.

Some Points:

• Coffee at its best!  Sip on good coffee, visit coffee plantations, and take some coffee home as a souvenir; also, don’t forget the spices.  
• I went during the rainy season once and there were lot of leeches. So do not wear shorts and go for covered shoes.
• Make sure you have a great company; you can just soak in greenery around whole day.
