Indian Lifestyle Blog – Healthy Hacks when on-the-go

I always say that do not take your body for granted. We do not realise how we tend to abuse our body every day. Consider your body as a temple and worship it. You will thank no one but yourself in later years.

According to the American Heart Association, it is recommended to do 30 minutes of physical activity every day for a healthy heart. This World Heart Day pump up your heart rate and engage in different types of workout. You can check here to calculate your heart age vis-a-vis the actual age and you would be surprised. This is a super cool app.

Financial planning is also an important part in healthcare. Prevention is always better than cure. So, it is best to take necessary measures. Make time and get a comprehensive health insurance plan for yourself that will cover the heart illness and other cardiovascular diseases too. Aviva Heart Care will equip you with the finances to get the best treatment for all kinds of heart conditions and covers 19 heart conditions/procedures from minor ones like angioplasty to major procedures like bypass surgery.

Here are some quick and hassle-free tips for a healthy heart, mind and body:

A box of Nuts
I always carry a small box of nuts in my bag. Where-ever I am, it always helps and keeps you satisfied for an hour. It is perfect for that after lunch hunger-pangs or while travelling. You can keep mixed nuts like almonds, walnuts and roasted pumpkin or flax seeds. A even carry a bar of dark chocolate!

Go Natural
The homemade protein bars work the best for me. I would not really recommend eating packaged foods on an everyday basis. Some of these processed bars have a lot of sugar and unhealthy/artificial ingredients/bad sugar substitute. So make sure you read the labels and macros well before you pick up these bars. I usually order these bars from EatAWhey and my other favourite ones are Quest Bars. They are not readily available in India and are imported at a higher price. They have come up with new variants with Stevia as a sugar substitute. Stevia is a plant-based sweetener.

Prep!
The best way to stay fit is to plan in advance. Do your meal preps on the weekend. I am not a kitchen-friendly person and do not like to spend time making complicated meals. I keep it simple. I usually make energy balls on the weekend. Sesame seeds energy balls are my favourite and keep me going at least for the maddening first few days of the week.

Grocery Shopping
I try to make sure I have all the groceries needed for the week like homemade almond milk, cottage cheese, full-fat cream, nuts and other essentials. Here is a sneak-peek into my grocery shopping list: Click here.

Get Moving
One of the hacks that always work is to get your arse off the seat when on a phone call and take 5-10 minutes’ walk after lunch in the office. You could always stretch and not be in the same position for long. Take escalators instead of the lift.

Water, water, water
Last and the most important point, you have no idea how important it is to stay hydrated throughout the day. Remember, you are already dehydrated by the time you are thirsty. We all have that bottle when we are strapped to the desk. So make sure to keep drinking sufficient glasses of water. I do not care even if I have to pee like 6-7 times in a day. Get those water reminder apps in case you tend to neglect this.

So, this World Heart Day let us take a pledge to eat clean and exercise. Make small changes every day and make them your routine. It is said that it takes 21 days to form a habit.
