They say Kashmir is a heaven on earth. Some say it is Switzerland of India!
Jammu and Kashmir is a state in northern India. It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains, and shares a border with the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south.
There is a heavy influx of tourists from all over the world. Our country is doing everything to keep the Kashmir Tourism going. Being in India I often tend to overlook so many places in India. This place has it all from snow-capped mountains, roaring waterfalls, lush gardens and valleys. This is on my wish list too and I hope my travel plans materialise soon.
Dal Lake
Srinagar
- You must stay in the boat house and enjoy the dal lake
- The place is known for trekking, boating, water skiing and bird watching
Pahalgam
- This hilly region is known for its forests
- I would love to check out Betab and Aru valleys, canoeing and horseback riding
Gulmarg
- It is around 2 hours’ drive from Srinagar
- You cannot get enough of the serene snow capped mountains and the vibrant flowers here
- Enjoy the Gandola rides for the panoramic view of the city
- Gulmarg has the highest cable car ride. Let the Gondola whisk you more than 13000 feet up Mount Apharwat for breathtaking views. I would highly recommend to book tickets online instead of standing in long queues. It has the highest cable wire system in Asia
- I would love to pamper myself and experience spas at Khyber Himalayan Resort and Spa
Sonmarg
- Sonmarg is located on the Kashmir-Ladakh highway
- Its major attractions are long nature walks and undulated trekking routes
- I cannot wait to trek to the famous Tajiwas glacier. It is around 5 hour trek and one can also hire a pony
Honestly, I have covered many places in India and for a few years I am keen on exploring other parts of the world.
They say take the life as it comes. This is one of the destinations I surely want to take off my bucket list soon. Till then I shall live vicariously through other people's escapades.
