Culinary Delights - Saffron Bay

Culinary Delights - Saffron Bay

Chana chaat - Baby potatoes, chick peas, ginger, green chillies and chaat masala
Pahadi Kabab ( Chicken cubes in fresh herbs and dry spice cooked in open fire)
Chicken Chettinad
There is nothing like spending a convivial evening watching the sea after a tiring day. Many of you would not be aware of the existence of this restaurant near the Marine Drive that serves authentic North Indian food.
I happened to visit this place and I am was quite over whelmed. Saffron Bay is divided into 3 sections comprising of the rooftop bar, the restaurant and the banquet.

The terrace has a great view and the dark ambience provides a perfect setting to break free and indulge in good food. However, the fine dining area seemed a little too dull and was deserted on a weekday. A look through the menu reveals regular Indian and mughlai cuisine.

We started with chickpeas chaat and kebabs for a protein packed bite. I love chickpeas and it is also packed with nutrients. The chana salad was simple and executed well without making the dish too complicated and over-the-top. The pahadi kebabs were succulent and we could feel the goodness pervade our senses. With our tummies intrigued, we eyed our mains.
I was in no mood to overload carbs for the dinner. I didnt have the breads but preferred to try the chicken dishes and curd (aka raita). My friend ordered chicken chettinad and it was not as exciting as the menu had talked them up to be and was swimming in oil.

I am not that into desserts and we decided not into indulge in a sweet splurge. The menu did have some authentic Indian desserts. My friend ordered a kulfi based on chef’s recommendation which was a perfect end to the meal.

As we know Sundowners is the new buzzword in the city and Saffron Bay has also introduced their Sunday sessions, complete with cheap drinks and cigar bar. Also note that the cash spent on food and beverages will be donated to terminally ill cancer patients. Hats off to their initiative!

Verdict: The place has a lot of potential and I would love to go back again for the rooftop view and succulent kebabs.

What I like?
- The rooftop bar facing the sea will mellow you down especially if you have a thing for rooftops like me.
- It wont make a hole in your pocket. One can make use of their promotional offers on the weekdays and enjoy an evening.

- The hospitality and impeccable service.

What I didnt like?
- The Chicken Chettinad was a bit too oily and didn't live up to my expectations.
- The menu is not as elaborate and they could come up with more innovative dishes.
