That Girl In Yellow Boots

StarCast: Kalki Koechin, Prashant Prakash, Naseeruddin Shah
Director: Anurag Kashyap
Duration: 1 hour 3o minutes

The Girl In Yellow Boots had opened in limited release and there was no hype and hoopla surrounding it like other crappy Bollywood movies. I downloaded this movie being inquisitive by nature especially due to the edgy title.

And, well after watching the movie the feeling of wretchedness does not seem to go away. An illegal immigrant, Ruth (Kalki Koechin) is desperately in hunt for her father in Mumbai. In the quest of searching for her father she endures the atrocities that come along. Her life is fraught with peril who resorts to work as a masseur.

Her journey through criminals, miscreants and sex-starved people unmasks the ugly corners of life oozing pain. It shows all the dark sides of relationships and portrays skulduggery.

I am numb after watching this movie. The magnitude and depth of the story gets you emotionally invested. I could glean vicarious agony and distress. It is depressing the way she sells her dignity.

You will feel distraught thinking about the character. It is profoundly disturbing. Somehow it is hard to grapple with the fact that life can be so unfair at times and leave you in an ocean of grief and desolation.

Her mission of finding her father might seem quixotic to few as it is hard to embrace reality. It just gets more bleak and in the end it will only make you grimace.

As the movie progresses and you try to accept the grim reality, the climax hits you hard on head like a squash racket. The finale is heartbreaking when the unfathomable truth comes to the surface.

I just like movies with happy endings, Period. How could it happen in real life?

Actually I am in a fix whether to recommend this movie or not. Anurag Kashyap has really battered his brains and it is probably one of his most powerful films. Though it might not have created waves in the Indian Cinema but kudos to him. The story line might be one-of-its-kind but it will not be accepted by most of the audience leaving them disappointed and shattered.

Check out Kalki's breathtaking performance. Her character and on screen persona will actually freeze you and get you paralyzed. In a nutshell, it is completely different, edgy, something new, something meaningful but still it wont engross the viewers.

The gritty performance by all the characters is remarkable. There are no songs and it is entirely focussed on Ruth, the girl in yellow boots. I love the hot yellow boots.

However, I don't regret watching it.

    Yes, it is.
And as long you believe that is the only escape from the reality , from the fact that you can remain positive and do something - the life will put you down.

  2. hey.. nice post :)

    however found a few errors.
" it is probably one of his most powerful film" - 'films'
"but still it wont engross the readers" - 'viewers'

i watched the movie in a multiplex and completely loved it..
agreed, it is very disturbing and hard to accept, but somehow i din't feel that it wasn't worth.
kudos to the team for coming up with something that's so bold.

also, the character of that don called chittiappa, is real funny. he evokes some laughter with his butler english in an otherwise serious movie.
